In business don’t just stare at the ingredients transformation comes when you creatively work out the inherent logic that the ingredients contain. If you combine your business ingredients creatively we all have the ability to create a new market, we just need the tenacity and the alchemy to try.
Creativity is an adventure into the unknown. Unanswered questions are the fuel. Alchemy is the driver. The best creativity has an intuitive logic at its core. Staring at the ingredients – sugar, eggs, flour, milk, and butter – will never produce a cake.
First we must creatively discover the hidden logic before baking a cake can be logical. It is only when someone discovers the inherent ‘cake logic’ through perseverance and the alchemists belief in experimentation that a repeatable ‘cake process’ becomes possible.
To be creative in business it is essential to explore the innate, implicit logic hidden within the ingredients - 100gms sugar, 1 egg, 100gms flour, 50gms butter makes a cake – of course it does. It is so obvious after somebody has cracked the logic of the cake code.
The creative business quest is to discover new logic, within the apparently chaotic disconnected ingredients – the aim of business leaders is to find the method in the madness. Creativity is so often judged as irrational, random, and unstructured. The lack of a creative process makes it, and the people who are good at it, appear so and yet at its heart is the desire to discover new structure where structure is absent. This new logic can be invaluable – genuinely market making.
Staring at disconnected ingredients sans creativity means they remain – just that, disconnected. Connecting the disconnected is the essence of creativity. It is what we crave in our business and yet so often we don’t understand it or know how to deal with it – we search to process the un-processable. Creativity doesn’t happen to order, it happens quickly, or takes ages. When we need it, it is often not there, when we don’t need it, new ideas come thick and fast.
One thing is for sure if creativity is absent you will always have ingredients and rarely taste the joys of cake.
